First off, a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to my 2016 reader survey.
The winner of the Starbucks gift card is Elle. Look for your card in your inbox soon!
It can be easy to take the survey results, read them, sit back, and do nothing, but I don’t think that’s fair to anyone who took the time to fill it out and leave thoughtful responses.
First, a summary of the responses.
Next, I do want to take the time to respond to the main points.
While I enjoy talking about blogging, you may not enjoy reading about blogging. I think because so often bloggers comment on blogs it can be easy to think of other bloggers as my main audience, but you’ve proven me wrong, so thank you.
Over the summer I registered a new domain (of which I am still working on) where there will be much more blogging/business focused content, so expect to see any blogging or business-like content that’s previously been posted here, moved over there sometime this fall.
Now, there will be a handful of blogging-related posts going up this month as I’d already committed to them, but don’t expect to see a ton of them.
I get it. Ads on blogs are always going to be a bit controversial.
Being in Canada means that sponsored opportunities are significantly less than those for bloggers in the US, and a lot of times, ads need to be run by a company in order to even get those sponsored opportunities.
While I’ve stated I have absolutely zero plans to make blogging my job, I also don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting a bit of return on my costs (hosting, templates, images, etc) and time.
That said, if an ad is particularly intrusive or inappropriate, please do let me know. I do my best to manage the ads that are shown on the site, but sometimes the odd weird one slips through, so don’t hesitate to let me know if that happens.
You may have noticed the “You may also like” has disappeared. A number of people commented the felt it broke up the flow of the post, and so I got rid of the plugin. It honestly wasn’t driving much in the way of traffic, so why keep something that people don’t enjoy?
This definitely won’t apply to everyone, but sometimes my spam filter gets a little too excited and eats comments. I do my best to check it daily and to clear out any comment that was mistakenly eaten.
I’m not certain why it’s so overzealous, but I’m trying to correct that. In the meantime, I like you and I’m saving your comments 🙂
You may have also noticed I’ve slowed a bit in responding to comments. Work +August has been exceptionally busy, and instead of spending time replying to comments, I’ve opted to work on posts instead of replying. That said, if I do work to respond to any comment with a question or clarification. I’m doing my best! 🙂
This is definitely something I’ve struggled with this year. I find it’s feast or famine when it comes to blogging, so moving forward, I’m planning on posting Monday to Thursday, and if I do post on Fridays it will be a Friday favourites or link love post. I’ve noticed I’ve been pretty terrible at scheduling link love posts, even though they’ve been drafted, so I’m hoping moving them to the occasional Friday will help with this.Your feedback makes a difference! Once again, thank you so much, for taking the time to leave comments. I’ve read (and saved) all of them and I truly appreciate it.
