I’ve only really started believing it could be spring in Calgary this week. Up until Monday we were in a deep freeze and all of us ladies were wearing iced on mascara after our Saturday long run. Contrast that with our run on Tuesday where it was 10C (50F) and we had daylight. I didn’t care how far or fast we ran, I was just thrilled I didn’t need 57 layers of clothing just to maintain my body temperature. Spring running is around the corner (though I wouldn’t rule out snow in Calgary just yet) and here’s why I love it.
Five Reasons to Love Running in the Spring
1 – Daylight!
Living more north than most people, I get used to 4pm sunsets during the winter, the in March bam! we hit daylight savings time and the sun doesn’t start to set until sometime around 7:30. This means evening runs are a real possibility and I don’t need to worry about excessive viability and scary people hiding in bushes.
2 – Spring blooms
Our extended winter means that sometimes blooms are a bit delayed, but I love running along the river and noticing the green buds on trees. 🌱 And then the flowers start to come up and it just makes my heart happy. 🌷
3 – Happy animals
I love it all.
And you know I’m going to stop and squee if I see a puppy.
4 – Warm sun
With spring comes heat from the sun. After spending all winter with nearly no daylight and a lack of warmth from the sun, I’ll take any tiny bit of sunlight there is.
Sun on my face, at my back, whatever, I’ll take it. It also give me an excuse to rock my Goodr sunnies which I looooove. 😎
5 – Summer is closer
I know I’m in the minority as someone who enjoys running in the summer, but it really is my jam. Gimme all the heat, and I’ll get gross and sweaty and then chill on my balcony with a cold one after. 🍻Spring is (almost) here! 5 reason to lace up and get running! #runchat #sweatpinkClick To Tweet
