And here we are, 3 months into 2017. It feels like a million years since I’ve popped in with a quarterly report, but, really, I did one in January. Why is it that the first three months of the year always seem like the longest? I really hope spring/summer doesn’t fly by (though I’m sure it will) so I can truly take time to enjoy the weather and the season.
Quarterly Report Q1 2017
I wasn’t focused on social media growth in 2016, and the same goes for 2017. I do use hashtags on Instagram, and try to come out with engaging content, but you won’t find me employing any kind of follow/unfollow tactic to grow my Instagram (which is by far my favourite platform). I work to engage on Twitter, and still use Facebook for Cowgirl Runs and Accounting for Bloggers, but oof, what a blog hole that can be.
- Facebook – grew 4% in Q1
- Twitter – grew 8% in Q1
- Instagram – grew 4% in Q1
- Pinterest – grew 6% in Q1
2017 compared to 2016 has seen a bit of a falling off for me. Honestly, I’m pretty okay with it. When it comes down to it, I blog for me, and have been putting quite a bit of time into creating content for Food Bloggers of Canada and life outside of the blog.
Until this year, I really didn’t pay any attention to where my traffic was coming from. I’d write a post, share it, and carry on. Now I’ve actually started looking at that area in Google Analytics (Acquisition –> Channels) and I find it good to know where, and how, people find me.
- Pinterest – 76%
- Facebook – 9% of referrals
- StumbleUpon– 7%
Both Facebook and StumbleUpon fell of this quarter, but I wasn’t very focused on sharing any of my posts to StumbleUpon, and we all know the Facebook algorithm is a massive black hole.
I always find it interested to see what you like, because it doesn’t always line up with what I think will be a well-received post. For that reason, I’ve divided this section into one your favourites, most shared, and my favourites.
