Happy hump day, friends!
If you missed Dopey Challenge Recap – Part 1, take a read before today’s post. You may also want to check out my pictures from the Disney Marathon Weekend since I won’t be sharing all the same pictures today.
I mentioned on Monday that we stayed at Universal until the park closed. This meant we didn’t get back to our home for the week until 9pm – and we still had to eat dinner! On the way, I picked up some NyQuil since my cold (that conveniently arrive on Monday) was being a jerk, and I didn’t sleep well at all on Wednesday night.
I think we went to bed around 10 or 10:30 on Thursday night – which was way too late given our 3:15 wake up call to get ready for the 10k.
Friday morning we woke up to rain. Ew.
Most of the other girls were smart enough to grab the mylar blankets we were handed on Thursday. I assumed (stupidly) that because I’m Canadian, I’d be able to weather the cold. This was a very bad idea. Ann and I ended up standing in our corral for about 30 minutes since they were giving 10 minutes between corrals. We were both pretty cold and grumpy by the time we started running.
We managed an Epcot selfie
And got a picture with Sully in the background because we were not standing in that line!
good terrible friends we are, we hid in the van to keep warm while we waited for people to finish and then we grabbed breakfast at Panera and went home to warm up.
After naps it was back to Panera for lunch, and then we wandered the outlets. Sadly, I was too tired to want to deal with stores and people, so Ann and I headed back, rented Magic Mike XXL (best) and prepped for Kelly’s birthday celebration. (We had cupcakes and they’re NSFW cupcakes, so no pictures – but we had fun!!)
And then it was time for our dinner of cheese and crackers since we had a half marathon in the morning.
Oh yay, another 3:15 wake up call. <– sarcasm font. I like running, but I’m not a big fan of early wakeups.
(Honestly, the miles were tough, but waking up at that ridiculous hour was freaking brutal).
Two years ago, Ann and I “ran” in the half in about 3:45. Our goal for this year was to finish faster. We did! We beat our previous time by roughly an hour. Go us!
Our only character stops were MIKE WAZOWSKI,
the castle (because one must always get a picture at the castle),
We spent the rest of the half chatting, walking through the water stations, and taking pictures with penguins and toy soldiers.
Since we didn’t have any real goal, and I wanted to save my legs, it was all about enjoying ourselves.
Around the 15km mark I noticed I was feeling a bit woozy, and realized that Panera twice and a few snacks likely wasn’t sufficient food for 4 days of running, so we went out for a real breakfast and I thoroughly enjoyed my cinnamon roll French toast.
I was finally brave/smart enough to have an ice bath, which was followed by a nap (I think) and then some beer.
We finished off the night by watching Pitch Perfect 2 before falling into bed. We had a marathon the next day….
C’mon back on Friday for my MARATHON recap!
