I had hoped to get to this recap yesterday, but after sleeping for 12 hours on Saturday night, I was still tired, so I only did what was necessary, like laundry and packing for Nashville 🙂
On Saturday morning Jen and I met at the very reasonable hour of 8:30 to pick up our race packages and get our minion costumes finalized before running all over Calgary.
I was super happy with how amazing our costumes turned out, and most everyone was able to guess we were Minions, so I think we were successful!
We planned to bring water and snacks, but right as I was heading out of the door, I found out my hydration pack had a hole in it 🙁 I’m hoping it’s fixable, but it wasn’t fixable on Saturday.
After pinning on our bibs, we hung out in the start area until we were set free to grab our clue sheets. We started figuring them out right away, and had the help of Jen’s husband, Tom, solving the ones we weren’t sure of.
First stop?! GoodLife Fitness on Stephen Avenue where Jen biked 3 miles and I quickly folded an origami star and worked on our clue sheet.
Next stop was the C-Train to head on down south where we teamed up to pull a bus.
Then? We walked. A lot. I would have loved to run, but my right hip was still very tight, so we spent most of the time walking. After a while we found Stanley Park and hula-hooped, and carried on our way to Elbow Park where we played with a huge soccer ball.
More walking followed, including a brief 5 minutes where I thought I lost the clue sheet, but nope! I’d tucked it into my bra and forgot about it 🙁 the pen I tucked into my bra also ended up leaking. Oopsie!
We correctly guessed we’d bowl at National and decided beers were in order since it was hot, afternoon, and we planned on climbing the Calgary Tower after.
Climbing 802 stairs is never fun, but we feel the beer made it bearable.
After a quick picture break we made our way east to Fort Calgary and the Hose and Hound in Inglewood. As soon as our bib was punched a bus pulled up and we ran to hop on to get back downtown.
I wore beer goggles and shot at another team, and then we played with buckets and sponges.
Our next stop was the most exciting. Zorbing! We managed to use Twitter to figure out there was zorbing and knew we needed to make a stop there. We were probably the worst zorbers ever, and at one point we both fell down we were laughing so hard. It. Was. Awesome.
We originally planned on heading to the Riley Park stop, but it was already 2:30 and we weren’t too sure if we’d make it back in time, so we headed to the tent village where we needed to pitch a tent, climb in, change clothes, change back and then take down the tent.
Since Jen and I were matching it wasn’t quite as funny as some of the swaps we saw.
We tried to find one more check point, but after wandering around and not being able to find it, we decided to call it a day with 12 check points complete! We came in just after 3 and both waited in line for massages before heading to the after party at Craft.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to get seats in the main area so we missed the side slow and had a hard time hearing the announcements and door prizes, but still enjoyed beers and food before calling it a night and heading home. I was in bed just after 9pm because I was beat!

I had such a fun time and can’t wait to do it again next year. Hopefully, I’ll be able to run by then 🙂
I was more sore than I expected on Sunday, which just goes to show I need to sound some more time at GoodLife Fitness. Good thing there’s a new location opening up near me!
Tomorrow is the grand opening for the Mount Royal Village location, and you’re all invited! There will be food and drinks and you’ll get a chance to see the facilities before it opens for classes on June 10.
But that’s not all! I’m giving away up to THREE one month passes to GoodLife Fitness. The more people who enter, the more passes I’m going to give away! The passes are good at any GoodLife Fitness location in Canada. The contest will run until June 17 and winners will be selected at random.
Check back next week for my recap of the opening.
