July 1, Canada Day, is a day where we celebrate when Canada became a country in 1867.
Celebrating Canada Day usually involves enjoying the sun (since our summers really are short!) by rafting down the river in Calgary, or going to a cottage, or the beach, depending on where you live in the country.
In the evening you can bet food will be from the BBQ, beer will be enjoying and fireworks will be watched……unless you’re like me and end up in bed before the fireworks start 🙂
This year I’m adding a new tradition to my list – I’ll be taking part in the Heroes Behind the Heroes 10k race at Spruce Meadows.
The Military Families Fund allows for several areas of support, including rehabilitation, education, financial assistance in the case of injury or death of a Canadian Forces member due to service, and urgent and extraordinary financial demands where the ability to provide family necessities is at risk.
If running a 10k isn’t your thing, you can sign up for the 5k run/walk, which is actually an obstacle course! I had a tough time deciding between the 10k and an obstacle course, because how fun would that be!?
Registration increases June 22, so don’t delay! Woohoo! I heard that there are no more registration increases, so register at any time, but sooner is better!
