Before we dive in to talking about running (it’s been a while since that’s happened, hasn’t it?) don’t forget to enter my giveaway for three entries into the If Girls Ran the World virtual run, and when you’re done that, pop on over and fill out my 2016 Reader Survey and be entered to win a $25 Starbucks gift card. I’ve read through some of your responses and I’m so appreciative of the feedback – I’m going to start implementing some changes in the coming days.
This summer I’ve ran all of twice. Once at the Stampede Road Race (a 10k) and once at the Run Through the Meadows (a 5k). Three years ago this was unheard of. If I had a day off running I started to get twitchy and couldn’t wait to get out there and run.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had that twitchy can’t wait to get out there feeling.
Initially, I wanted to fight it. I wanted to want to want to run.
Now? I’m rolling with it. I’m not always so good at rolling with things or taking them as they come, but I’m doing an okay job of it right now.
I absolutely could force myself to put on my shoes and get out the door, but I’m not big on forcing myself to do things I don’t really want to do. (This is part of my questioner nature.)
Being a questioner means I don’t/won’t do things just to do them. Just because someone says so, doesn’t mean I’m going to do you. You could write 1001 article on “how to make yourself run” (just like there are 1001 articles on learning how to be a morning exerciser, and you already know my thoughts on that).
And so, I’m choosing to embrace other forms of exercise, mainly barre, until the running bug returns, which I’m quite confident it will.
I just signed up for the 10k when I’m in Maui (I leave in 3 weeks!!) and I’m also signed up for the 10k and half marathon over Avengers weekend, so my return to running will happen sooner rather than later, but for now, I’m going to embrace other forms of exercise and will treat myself with some grace and kindness as I return to training.Sometimes it's okay to not run - check out Ange's thoughts. #runchat Click To Tweet
