Greetings and happy Saturday, my friends!
I’m very excited to have a long weekend this weekend – and it’s extra long for me as I took yesterday off to meet Brie and Becky at the Calgary Zoo so their kiddos could wander around and so we (especially I) could be there for the penguin walk. 🐧
When Becky told me she and Liam were coming down for the penguin walk, I was super jealous because I adore penguins, so it seemed like a great time to take a day off. 🐧
Today I’m jetting off to spend the weekend in Kelowna with my dad and his girlfriend. Normally I make a trip out during the summer, but that didn’t happen this year, and I stayed in Calgary for Christmas, so a long weekend seemed like a great time for a trip.
With that, let’s take a look at what I loved this week.
Sharleen Joynt on the Bachelor: Episode 6 <– I loved Sharleen on Juan Pablo’s season (though I did not love Juan Pablo) and I’m a super huge fan of her insight into The Bachelor franchise. I highly recommend her recaps if you want a bit more insight into the show.
Here To Make Friends <– okay, so this is a podcast, but it’s pretty much my current favourite podcast. Again, Bachelor related, but extremely well done and witty.
Fix These Overlooked SEO Opportunities in 10 Minutes Flat <– if you’re a blogging and aren’t following Katy, get on that. Now, SEO. Ugh, right?! I highly recommend following Katy’s tips in this post (full disclosure: I haven’t yet, but I’m working on it!)
Overtraining? Or Under-Recovering? <– Fitness is an area where there is a flavour of the week. The concept of overtraining has been a flavour for a while. While I do think we can burn ourselves out (I’m more apt to be mentally burned out than physically) it’s relatively unlikely a recreational athlete will be truly overtrained. We’re more likely not taking care of ourselves. I use my resting HR to determine my recovery, and it took it nearly 3 weeks to return to my normal level after Disney. Yes, I still went to BodyPump, but was cautious to rest when I needed to so my body could take the necessary time to recover.
How Social Media Skewed my Thoughts of Running Fast <– I think this is so true for so many runners! I also think this might be why way too many people run too many runs too quickly! ahem Slow down, people!
The Thing All Women Do That You Don’t Know About <– so, this is pretty serious, but it’s also really important. I did this just a few weeks ago. I opened up a snap from a (male) acquaintance that made me feel really uncomfortable. I didn’t say anything, I just closed it and carried on. I should have told him it was not okay and I should have told him it was harassment. I did neither. (I didn’t even tell my girlfriends because I didn’t want to relive the icky feeling. Awful, I know)
How to Clear Your Computer of Focus-Draining Distraction <– I’m relatively certain this article was written for me. While I may not have a lot of desktop clutter, I currently have 21 open tabs in Chrome. Twenty-one. Why?! 2: email. 1: Facebook. 1: Twitter. 3: blog related. The rest? Who the heck knows, but I obviously thought I needed them.
