Happy first Saturday of February.
I’m so happy it’s finally the weekend. This week took forever. I was a grump on Monday and then Thursday felt like Friday so by the time Friday rolled around I was over. Thank goodness for the weekend.
Today I’m off to an early morning haircut and then I’ll be heading down south to visit my mom. I haven’t been down since Christmas and it’s her birthday on Monday, so it seems fitting that I stop by for a visit 🙂
Assuming you’re able to have a lazy day today, here are my favourites of this past week.
Because the internet is awesome

Posts from the past week and waaaaay back.
FIERCE in 8 Review and Giveaway <– open until Monday, get on it!
Random things I’m loving on the internet.
How to Grow Your Blog with Google + <– I have Pinterest to thank for this find. While I think I do relatively okay at most Social Networks, I admit that G+ is one I just haven’t yet figured out, so I was pumped to take a read through this for some tips and pointers. Also, don’t forget to check out the whole Demystifying Social Media series for some great tips and tricks!
Love Your Heart <– February is Heart Month and GoodLife Fitness is using this month to bring awareness to cardiovascular heath. I’ll be posting and sharing the #IHeartExercise challenges throughout the month and invite you to join in with me. Pssst, I might also have a kickass giveaway for you (Canadians) so hop on over and join the challenge!
Beauty, Confidence, and the Concept of Being “Brave” <– I’ve been reading Gretchen’s blog forever (have you read Terra?!) and am so glad she’s back to regular blogging. She doesn’t mess around when it comes to talking about topics that are deemed “difficult” and she writes very, very well.
Stepping in the shit puddle <– just read it. I hope you’re laughing along with me 🙂
And because I just like to stir the pot sometimes shrug here’s a great video by Penn and Teller. And here’s your obligatory language warning 🙂
You’re Not Your Diet. You’re Not Your Body Fat Percentage <– the first week of January I started an 8 week “challenge”. It’s focused on 5 days of 45 minutes of exercise, 64oz of water, 5 servings of freggies and not snacking late at all. All great things that are really important for sustainable health. I know I was eating too much sugar and crap over the holidays so my hope would be that some weight would leave. That hasn’t happened. And yes, it frustrates the heck out of me, so to say I needed this post was an understatement.
If you’re having a bad day, or a good day, or any kind of day, watch this.
Cropped: The USATF #YoureWelcome Commercial <– sponsorship can be great for athletes, but what happens when athletes not sponsored by NIKE are treated differently? From the post:
Does it give USATF the right to asphyxiate the sport, creating a sponsor ecosystem that keeps the majority of pros under the poverty line?
I will admit I am completely ignorant of Canada’s track and field/athletics system and sponsorship program (I’ll be looking into it) but no matter your country, runners deserve to be treated better. Back in the day, I could rant endlessly on how underfunded Canadian athletic programs were (and still are) and it sounds like the USATF is moving in the same direction.
How A Game About Exploding Kittens Broke a Kickstarter Record <– I totally backed this and I cannot freaking wait to get my hands on the game. Seriously. You have until February 19 to be part of the cool crowd.
10 Years <– a beautiful post from my pal Nikki on the power of running and how it changed her life.
7 Truths of Blogging <– sometimes we just need to be reminded 🙂
Fitness Friday – #IHeartExercise <– Two reasons you should visit this post 1) you’ll get a new respect for just how important heart health is and 2) a kickass giveaway!
How to talk about Bruce Jenner when we don’t know the full story <– I realize this is a deep post, but the media speculation, and magazine articles have rubbed me the wrong way. We don’t actually know what’s happening and I can’t imagine how difficult this must with such a huge potential for backlash and judgement.
Start your own #HomeHAPPYhour <– I can’t tell you how much I love this idea. I’m filing it away and hope that one day, when I don’t live with just Merlin, I’ll be able to implement my own #homeHAPPYhour. Not that I don’t like happy hour with Merlin, he just sucks at solving problems.
Happy Saturday – any awesome links I missed?
