Sooooooo, I fully intended to have this post up last week, but visiting with my mom and sister was more important (sorry blog) so you’re getting a ton of links this week! I’m sure you won’t mind 🙂
This morning I’m meeting up with some lovely ladies for a 4k casual fun run in the sun followed by a BBQ and some relaxing. I’ve been feeling quite on-edge this week as a result of the fires (thankfully, no where near Calgary, but it’s impacted friends and employees) so I’m looking forward to time spent with friends.
Heartbroken for my Hometown of Fort McMurray <– I’ve been trying to balance sharing my already written and scheduled content with not being seen as inconsiderate to those in my province impacted by the fire in Fort McMurray. On Tuesday, 88,000 people, the entire city, were forced to evacuate and leave everything behind. Aside from donating to the Red Cross, I’m at a loss for what to do, so if you have $5 to spare, I ask you consider making a donation as well. In 2013 Calgary was hit by a devastating flood, and the Red Cross provided support to the 100,000 residents who were forced to evacuate their homes. The least I can do it pay it forward to those in Fort McMurray.

Five Secrets about Buying Running Shoes <– I LOVE that Hollie has pointed out that running shoes don’t (and shouldn’t) have a break in period. And I can confirm that the cause of my blisters are socks, and not shoes, so I buy pricey socks. Not having blisters is worth it.
In My Daughter’s Eyes <– this post from Tawnya gave me all the feels. I can relate to so much of what Tawnya experienced in her youth and I know if I were to have a daughter, I would have many of the same thoughts and fears.

When helping hurts: Why you should never donate physical goods during a disaster <– regardless of how you personally fell, the Red Cross is the best way to get support to those who need it during a disaster. They are accountable to their fund usage and have a great rating on Charity Intelligence.
