Hello and happy Monday friends! Before I dive into sharing my goals for Dopey Challenge this weekend, I wanted to give you a chance to take a read of my 2015 recap (part 1, part 2) and my word for 2016. Just in case you missed them last week 🙂
Now with that out-of-the-way, let’s dive on in – to Dopey!
The Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge involves running 4 races on back-to-back days: 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon.
It all sounds great until you get to the marathon part, right?! Oof.
Full disclosure: I’m woefully under trained for this. Like, if I were coaching someone as under trained as I am, I’d strongly urge them to defer, or not run the marathon. So, do as I say, not as I do, okay?
Given the above, why am I not deferring? 1 – planning another trip back to FL in 2017 would be expensive and 2 – I’m meeting 5 of my favourite people in FL and they’re worth suffering for. However, they may not agree since they’ll be the ones dealing with me in the aftermath of the marathon.
That said, what are my goals?
Have fun. I’m here to hang out with friends and run a few races. I have zero time goals, save for not being swept in the marathon, so fun is the name of the game.
Finish smart. I’m confident in my ability to complete the first three races without issue. We’ll chat, we’ll run, we’ll stop for pictures, and eventually, we’ll finish. The marathon is a different story. I’m running with Katie (of Chase This Skirt) and our goal is to finish. This is going to take a combination of running and walking, and, possibly, cursing as well.
Don’t get injured. While I really (really) want these damn medals (I’m counting this as my one shot at doing Dopey) if I feel like something is really, really wrong, I’ll (probably) stop. I’m hopeful it won’t ever come to considering needing to stop.
These goals are kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel, but considering I’m not in marathon shape, I’m taking what I can get.
In addition to sharing my goals for Dopey, I also wanted to share my January 2016 workout calendar. In keeping with the theme of discipline, I wanted to schedule my workouts for accountability. I’ll also be sharing my workout results each week.
Raise your hand if you actually think I’ll do squats on the days following the half marathon or marathon. Ha! But I left ’em in there as motivation.
