Hello, and happy 2016!
I was going to say “good morning” but, I can’t be certain it’s morning since sleeping in is always a good choice after a late night and possibly, a few too many drinks.
I’ve had my word for 2016 for a few weeks, but wanted to think about it to be sure it was right for me, and it definitely is.
My word for 2016 is……
When I declared my word for 2015 to be consistency and was highly unsuccessful, I think it’s because I was lacking in discipline.
After deciding on my word, I saw the below tweet
Discipline is just choosing between what you want now and what you want most.

Yup. Nailed it.
I’ve definitely been living for now and not for the future.
Health & Fitness
I know I’m more than capable of being a strong and consistent runner. Lack of discipline (and consistency!) is was caused my injuries and now I’m heading into 48.6 miles of running very under trained. (I definitely don’t recommend doing what I’m doing).
- follow a training plan (whatever that may be)
- strength train twice a week
- complete the Oiselle Dirty Dozen 3x/week as part of the #runlove challenge
Since I’m an introvert, it’s far too easy for me to shut myself off to the world and stay home instead of venturing out. I’m thankful I have great friends who will encourage me (kindly) to get off my butt and get out into the world. While it may seem counterintuitive to say I want to be disciplined and then say I want to venture out, I don’t think it is. See, introverts need to plan for new experiences and spontaneity 😉
I also want to streamline my home life by setting up a routine so I expend less energy dealing with the day-to-day. Is this something you’d like to hear more about? I’m considering blogging about it, but want to make sure you’d be interested first.
I’ve also cut back on my trips in 2016. While I had a lovely time traveling in 2015, saving money and exploring where I live will be my priorities in 2015.
You may have noticed I’ve cut back a bit in my posting schedule. While I’ve loved posting 5 days a week, it was difficult to maintain and I was regularly feeling guilty or struggling with a topic, so I’ve decided to post three days per week, with the occasional fourth day thrown in if I have something interesting to share.
I also want to make sure I’m sharing quality information, so I’m going to revisit my Reader Survey and work on setting up posts in CoSchedule (I’m a huge fan of using CoSchedule to keep my life and social shares organized).
[Tweet “Welcoming in 2016 with my intention for the year – DISCIPLINE. Do you start the year with a word?”]
I’ve learned it’s pretty impossible to change all things over night (I’ve tried…..and failed many a time) so I’m planning on picking one or two small changes each month to focus on throughout the year. Stay tuned for a series of posts about applying discipline to different areas of my life throughout 2016.
Do you set intentions for the upcoming year? What word would you pick for 2016?
