Lately, I find myself doing all sorts of things I said I’d “never” do. It seems if I say, “I’ll never _____” it’s a guarantee I’ll find myself tackling that crazy adventure in the near future.
Let’s take a peek, shall we?
I’m not a runner. I’ll never run a race.
I’ll admit I said this as a teenager, so I was pretty stupid and it’s really no good to put much stock into anything uttered by a teenager, but I think it’s safe to say this has been debunked.
I’ll never be able to train for a race alone.
I trained for my first half marathon with the running room. Then I trained for my first marathon alone. All of my training runs alone.
I’ll never run a marathon.
That said, I think 2016 will be light on marathons. They take quite a bit of time to train for, and I’d like to see where I can get to speed-wise.
Ultra marathons are crazy.
And yet, it didn’t take me much time to sign up for a 50k when it was announced in Calgary.
I even said I miiiiight (I said, might) do another. The timing would need to be right, but I’m not ruling it out (I’m also not signing up for one).
I’ll never run a Ragnar.
The main reason I was scared of a Ragnar was the lack of sleep. Yet, when I was offered a chance to run an ultra Ragnar (ultra!!) I jumped at the chance.
I learned I can survive the lack of sleep and the sleep after the Ragnar is pretty much the best thing ever.
I’ll never do a triathlon.
This one is still outstanding.
I’m terrified to ride my bike on a highway with cars (and I don’t currently own a tri bike). But I might be able to get over it?
I’m hoping Santa brings me a tri bike for Christmas 🙂

What have you said you’ll never do and ended up doing?
