For as far back as I can remember, Labour Day has always signaled the end of summer.
The Tuesday following Labour Day was back to school, and while the weather was still warm (and technically summer) the mornings had that fall nip in the air.
The chosen charity for Summer’s Gone – Run On! is KidSport Calgary.
KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under. Through a confidential application process we provide grants so they can play a season of sport. Nationally, KidSport is comprised of a network of 11 provincial/territorial KidSport chapters and 178 community KidSport chapters. Since its creation in 1993, over 450,000 kids across the country have been given the chance to play sport through KidSport grants and sport introduction programming.
While I didn’t realize it at the time, I was extremely lucky to be able to take part in multiple activities as a kid. I have no idea if it was a struggle for my parents to pay for my involvement in sports, and I’m honestly thankful that I wasn’t aware if it was a struggle.
Being part of a team and being active in my youth definitely helped me to be active as an adult, and I’m very thankful for that.
I’m also very excited that a number of other bloggers will be joining me at Spruce Meadows on Sunday September 6th. Laura, Ashley, Brie and (I believe) Kaella will be in attendance as well. Like them, you, can use the code RunSM75 and save 10% off your registration fee.
Race day details:
Package Pickup: August 31 & September 1 (see the website for details)
Race Start: 9am on September 6
Parking: $10 can be paid for at package pickup, or on race day (cash only)
Food: Once you’ve finished your 5k or 10k, enjoy a complimentary breakfast sandwich (vegetarian options available!) from Great Events. (Don’t tell anyone, but I’m eating my breakfast sammie and then going for brunch!)
