I started 2017 with two races on my plan – a huge change from prior years where my race schedule was mapped out months in advance and I spent a ton of money registering for races.
There have been a few additions to the list in recent weeks, so I thought it was finally time to share the races I’m currently registered for, though there may still be a handful of additions throughout the year 🙂
Calgary Police Half Marathon (April 30) – now, this race is scheduled for Sunday, but unfortunately I’m not certain if I’ll be running it. I have a 20km long run with my running group (that I didn’t consider when I registered for the race) and my right tibialis posterior muscle has been acting up a touch, so running it and risking injury doesn’t sound like a great plan. In past years, I probably would run it because I currently “feel fine” (thanks to three IMS sessions in 7 days), but we all know how quickly that can change!
Ragnar Niagara (May 19 and 20) – in three weeks van one will be ready to start our journey from Cobourg to Niagara Falls! I was first asked to be on the team in the fall, and I cannot believe race day is nearly here! I have an absolutely amazing team, and we’ve been unbelievably lucky to have Reebok sponsor our team (head over here to meet the team!). Make sure you’re following the team on social media as we’ll be posting on InstaStories and Facebook Live throughout!
Calgary Half Marathon (May 28) – the goal race for my Lolë run club. It’s absolutely crazy to think that in four weeks our 19 week run club journey will be over. I’ve had such an amazing time meeting runners in the community, and I’m pumped to cap things off by running around my city!
City Chase (June 3) – the weekend following the Calgary Half Marathon Brie and I will be running around Calgary doing goodness-knows-what. I had a blast doing this with Jen, and I’m super excited Becky will also be in Calgary for the event, so we may end up being an unofficial team of four 🙂 If you’d like to register, you can save $20 off your registration by using COWGIRLRUN20 when you sign up.
Love You Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women (June 11) – this has been one of my favourite runs, which shouldn’t be surprising considering this is the fourth time I’m running it. This year they have a new date and location (Bowness) so I’m excited to check out the changes. I also love to support any event that supports and raises funds for mental health.
Millarville Half Marathon (June 17) – just like last year, my mom and I will be running the same race, and thankfully I’ve ran significantly more this year! I’m also planning on remembering to bring some cash so I can actually shop the different stalls at the market, and hopefully I’ll be able to chill in my mom’s pool after the race.
SeaWheeze Half Marathon (August 12) – last year was supposed to be my fourth year in a row of running SeaWheeze, but unfortunately Merlin’s surgery was that same weekend, so I wasn’t able to attend. As a result, I’m extra excited to return and check out the new course.
Army 10 Miler (October 8) – My cousin is getting married in DC this weekend, so I obviously looked up “races in DC” and realized the Army 10 Miler is that same weekend. Even better? She’s getting married on the Friday so I’ll have plenty of time to recover. I haven’t actually registered yet, as it doesn’t open until May, but when it does you better believe I’ll be signing up like a madwoman! I’m really hoping some of my US-based running friends will be there as well 🙂
It definitely felt strange going into the year with only Ragnar and SeaWheeze on the books, but I know taking it easy when it comes to racing (in theory – May/Jun is a bit busy) was the plan for me. I’m hoping to also be able to run a few more 5 Peaks and MEC races this year, but am waiting to register until I know I’ll be able to fit them in my schedule.
What does your 2017 race calendar look like?
