We left off Wednesday with van one taking over from our second set of legs.
Carmy took off, taking over from Lisa on her second leg. Unfortunately, when I was texted an update my brain wasn’t fully engaged and I thought my leg had been changed and not hers. It caused a bit of confusion as her mileage ticked up and up. Sorry for leading you astray, Carmy!
She made her way to us and I was off on my first night leg through Toronto. Our van opted to count kills and I was pumped I was able to count four kills on my way before handing off to Eric.
We headed off to the next exchange and attempted to say warm as the weather was cooling off and then we see Eric battling another runner to the finish for a kill as he handed off to Janice.
Janice had a quick leg, so we hopped right in the van to head to Erik’s exchange….another super fast leg! So fast we missed his handoff to Ben because we were eating Lisa’s cookies. Whoops. Sorry, guys!
Next stop was Exchange 18 where van 2 would take over from us. Ben stayed out to run with some van 2 runners as some of the Ragnar areas weren’t the best for night running, and we wanted our team to feel safe at night.
While van 2 took over we headed to Tim Hortons for coffee, donuts and flush toilets and went straight to Exchange 24 so we could try and nap.
I guess I had about 90 minutes of broken sleep, and then woke up hungry and fell into a fit of giggles as I attempted to look for my lost donut. I doubt this would have been funny at any time other than 3am on absolutely no sleep.

Once Carmy and Eric were off we rescued Ben so he could return to the best van and set off so I could meet Carmy. I saved my warmest outfit for my final leg and I’m glad I did.
It was easy to spot Carmy and Eric coming in with the two headlamps side by side. The bracelet was passed to me and I was off! I was pumped again to count some kills on my leg with four, and even managed to come in ahead of my predicted pace!
Eric has a brief break, and then took over running almost entirely into the wind.
We powered through navigating to our final exchanges and sending off Janice, Erik, and Ben, who brought it home like a bat out of hell handing off to Allison to kick off the final legs for van 2.
With van 1 being done duty for the day, we headed right to the finish line to do a bit of wandering while we waited for van 2. I was thankful for the opportunity to sightsee around the falls, sit in the sun, and enjoy a beer (okay two) and a burger before meeting up with van 2.
We all gathered outside the arch 200m from the finish to wait for Lisa who was running the Reebok sponsored toughest leg of the race. We started cheering as soon as we saw her and ran across the finish line together.
I’m honestly not sure how to sum up my thoughts and feelings about Ragnar. I feel like I was blessed with the best Ragnar team ever. We had so much fun together. As expected, due to fatigue, I had a mini melt down after we all finished, but I’ll own my fatigue and lack of rational brain. I’m so thankful my team mates were forgiving and understanding.
Ragnar is an experience that’s difficult to put into words. You’re forced in a van with five or six other people for upwards of 30 hours. Lack of sleep, dehydration, hunger, and different personalities are all at play, and I have to say Team Endorphriends rocked it. We all had the same goal – getting to the finish line safe and smiling, and I’m confident saying we 100% achieved that goal! I’d do it all over in a heartbeat (except, hopefully not misread a text and have a meltdown).
I also had no idea how quickly I’d run and hoped I’d make my paces and I’m so happy to say I nailed them. With the exception of being stopped for lights and the occasional picture, I ran sub 6 minutes kilometres for all of my legs. It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen those paces, and now I’m pumped to train hard for SeaWheeze and see what I can do.Ready for more? @ReebokCanada @RagnarRelay Team Endorphriends race update - part twoClick To Tweet
