Before I dive into SeaWheeze, I want to thank everyone for your sweet comments on yesterday’s post about blogging goals. It’s nice to know you appreciate my humanness and might even be inspired by it! Never fear, that humanness is here to stay, because regardless what I talk about, I’m still me, faults and all 🙂
Later on this evening I’m going to hop on a plane, fly to Vancouver, and meet up with my forever-SeaWheeze-buddy, Lexie and start my weekend of awesomeness.
Whether this is your first, or fourth (it’s my third!) SeaWheeze, there are some awesome things you should be aware of.
Friday (not race day)
- Runners only access to the store! I’ve been begging for this since the first year I was there and I’m pumped that runners will have access Friday morning from 7:00-9:30. BUT make sure you have ID and your printed ticket to get in.
We Run Social meet up. Don’t worry, this is happening after runners only access. Be at the Olympic Cauldron at 10:30 for some fun times. If you have WRS gear with you, be sure to wear it. (On that note, I need to find my hat). Meet up is hosted by PointOneMiles and RunFasterSarah so be sure to follow them!
- Nooner yoga. After the We Run Social meet-up, grab a snack, your mat and some water and get ready for some nooner yoga looking out at the Pacific Ocean. I have an engagement during the noon-hour, so I’ll be missing out, so be sure to get in some downward dogs for me 🙂
Evening yoga. Missed out on nooner yoga, or just looking for a two-a-day? Hit up the Convention Centre at 7:30 on Friday to get losse and relaxed just in time for the race on Saturday morning 🙂 I will be at this one, along with Lexie, her sister, Kaella, Ashley and whoever else wants to join us!
If you haven’t already, make sure you download the SeaWheeze app for up-to-date events and information for all the awesome happenings.
Saturday (aka – race day!)
- Do you run for Oiselle? If so, meet us at the Olympic Torch bright and early for a pre-race photo-op! We’re meeting at 6:15 (yup, early!) at the torch before getting warmed up and heading to the corrals.
- You’re going to be hungry after running! Lululemon is putting on a brunch, but if you want more I recommend checking out Heirloom. The food is freaking fantastic and delicious and all those things. (I highly recommend the mushroom benny, but be wild and add brie, you’ll thank me later!)
After eating and napping, it’s time to head on over to the Sunset Festival. You might be a bit sore after the run, but trust me, some yoga, a beer and good music will cure you for Sunday 🙂
SPUD will be at the Jack Poole plaza with goodies on Friday, so be sure to pop by their van and say “hi” and grab a piece of fruit!
Bella Gelateria has the best gelato in Vancouver. The. Best. Plan to go there daily, and plan to wait in line. I refuse to wait in lines (my exception appears to be at SeaWheeze) but this is worth it.
Race Day Tips
On race day, give yourself enough time to wake up, eat, and walk to the start line. Again, I’m not a big fan of waiting around, but I’d much rather be early for a race than late.
Be considerate. The corrals are self-seeded. If you can’t run a 2-hour half marathon, please don’t like up with the 2-hour runners.
Nothing new on race day. Yes, this includes the amazing and wonderful new Lulu gear you’ll be buying tomorrow morning. (Note: I’ve been known to wear new Lulu for SeaWheeze, so maybe don’t take my advice here……).
Take time to enjoy the course. The two tough sections are the big hill before the Burrard Street Bridge (tip: run this by effort and not pace) and the over and back of the Burrard Street Bridge. This all happens before the 11km mark, so you still have 10km to go. Don’t burn yourself out by running this section too quickly!
Enjoy the Seawall. Not many races in Vancouver allow runners on the Seawall, so enjoy it. But – be warned, you’ll be heading up a nasty hill right about the 18km mark. It makes me say nasty words. You may too, but don’t let it psyche you out. It’s short and one you’re up there, you’re well on your way to the finish.
