Holy moly, friends. Can we please take a moment to appreciate how amazing long weekends are?
Having a third day off just makes the weekend so much more enjoyable.
I started my long weekend early by working a half day on Friday. I met a friend for lunch and proceeded to inhale my burger. Not very ladylike, but who cares when runger sets in.
I then stopped by Express to make some updates to my fall wardrobe. I was sad to see their dress pants were excluded from the 40% off sale (seems like everything else was included) but nonetheless, I needed pants that fit, so there I went.
Saturday I had plans to meet Jen for our long run, but the weather was not cooperating. We debated between braving the rain but opted for a treadmill instead. Due to a mix up at my condo gym, I only managed 3.5 miles. I considered heading outside but decided to see how much I could tackle on Sunday instead.
(Someone told me and “claimed” treadmills could only be used for 30 minutes when people were waiting. I’ve since confirmed that to be false, so that’s the last time someone pulls something over me).
I spent the rest of Saturday relaxing and watching Motive. I even enjoyed a 2.5 hour nap. It was one of those naps that you have no idea what year it is when you wake up, so I obviously needed the rest.
Sunday I was up at 6am to get ready for the Summer’s Gone – Run On! race at Spruce Meadows (recap coming Wednesday. The name was apt since it was cold (temperatures feeling like 0C or 32F) and windy. It seemed like quite a few runners opted to stay home because of the weather; I decided it was just winter training.
Jen met me at my house, we picked up Laura and Brie, grabbed our packages and met Ashley at the site.. I ran a 4km warm up before running the 9.7km race with Jen. Once everyone finished we met Jo and Sam at the Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant for brunch.
Sam is heading back to Eastern Canada shortly, so it was great to be able to see her before she leaves us Calgary gals.
After brunch (and a quick stop at Express) I decided to see if I could bang out a few more treadmill miles. I decided to see how it felt since not all my runs have been easy and I’m happy to say I made it 5 miles for a total of 14 on the day.
I suppose today could also be counted as weekend and I have a massage this morning and plan on doing some more relaxing for the rest of the day.
Marathon Training Recap
- Monday – Bodypump at GoodLife Fitness
- Tuesday – 5 miles untimed
I truly had no idea of this run was going to happen. I followed my rule of putting on my workout clothes upon walking in the door and I still didn't want to. After waffling, I told myself I could walk for 2 miles. This turned into a roughly 5 mile run. I have no idea about my pace because I left my Garmin at home. It was exactly what needed after a tough week of running last week. #cowgirlruns #runyyc #runchat #fitcanadian #voleé
- Wednesday – 10-minute rule
- Thursday – 3.5 treadmill miles and CXWRX with Jen at GoodLife Fitness
If it wasn't for @prettylittlegrub I would have planted my butt on the couch today. Instead I ran 3.5 miles on the struggle bus AND took a CXWRX class at @goodlifefitness. I'll call that a Thursday win. (One day I'll stop stealing pictures from Jen – today is not that day) #cowgirlruns #runyyc #runchat #werunsocial #fitcanadian #livingthegoodlife
- Friday – Rest
I've been trying to hide it, but I've not felt my best this week. I've been tired, anxious, frustrated and disappointed. Spending this evening curled up on the couch with Merlin, tea and movies is exactly what my soul needs. I'm hoping to wake up tomorrow with a better outlook on things. #cowgirlruns #igacademy15 #dailyMerlin #truth #reallife #catsofinstagram
- Saturday – 3.5 treadmill miles
- Sunday – 4km warm up, 9.7km run, 5 treadmill miles
Lately running has been a bigger battle mentally than physically. I've struggled with runs, so I started psyching myself out before I'd even head out the door. Today I worked hard to overcome those mental barriers. While running this weekend wasn't perfect, I've totaled 17 miles, just shy of my 20 mile goal. Instead of worrying about being short on mileage, I'm happy I ran 5 miles on the treadmill after running 9 this morning AND enjoying an amazing brunch. Tomorrow is a new day and I'll remind myself that I CAN and stop letting my thoughts get the better of me. #sundayrunday #cowgirlruns #marathon #runchat #igacademy15 #runyyc #werunsocial
Weekly mileage: 26 miles
Overall, I’m pretty happy with this week. These runs were slightly less of a struggle compared to other weeks and I’m working on getting out of my own head, trusting my body (not always easy to do lately) and running without my Garmin when I need it.
I have 5 weeks until marathon #1 in Victoria and I’m confident I’ll be ready for it.
How did you spend your time this long weekend?
