On the chance you missed seeing it yesterday, Emma of In Your Face Nutrition interviewed me last week for nutrition month and my interview went live yesterday. We met for coffee last week and easily talked for over an hour. If I didn’t need to get back to work I’m sure we could have talked for much longer!
It’s spring! It’s spring!
Now, Calgary has some snow in the forecast for this week, and we all know we get snow the first weekend in May, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be excited about spring! 🌷
This weekend was another pretty low-key weekend, but that’s honestly how I like them.
After work on Friday I grabbed some food, ate said food, finally watching Mockingjay Part 2 and was in bed around 10pm.
I didn’t pick out my clothes for Saturday’s race, and I didn’t take any pictures. My focus was solely on sleep. This week was hectic and it spiked my anxiety a bit, so I really just wanted to rest and sleep.
Although I could have slept in until 8am, Merlin had other ideas and started asking for breakfast at 6:30. I finally got out of bed at 7, made some coffee and ate a bagel and watched Gilmore Girls until it was time to get ready to head to the race start.
I met up with Jen, Crystal, Nicole, Leigh, and Leslie, and we chatted a bit before Jen and Crystal took off to run the half marathon (the rest of us were running the 5 miler). Of course, we neglected to get a picture with all of us.
I mentioned I had booked a chiro appointment after the race, so I needed to run smart, and also fast enough so I wasn’t too late to my appointment. After I finished (scroll down for the recap) I grabbed a bar, banana, and an orange, hopped in my car, cursed traffic lights, and made there only 5 minutes late!
After we fixed my broken body, I stopped by the grocery store to grab some food for the week and then it was home for lunch and a treat before I recuperated with a nap.
I spent Saturday evening watching movies (Crazy Stupid Love and The Devil Wears Prada) and was in bed at 9:30.
Merlin let me sleep all the way until 7am and then I made some french press coffee (I look forward to this every weekend) and chilled on the couch before tackling my weekend tasks of laundry, vacuuming, and food prep (and blog writing!).
My lunches for the week (hooray for a 4-day work week!) are roasted carrots and sweet potato with roast chicken. I buy roast chicken from the grocery store because it’s cheaper than buying one and roasting it, shred it and portion. I can usually get 5 meals out of one chicken! 👍
I’m going back to my smoothie ways and made some smoothie packs with frozen berries, zucchini (thanks to Erin’s suggestion) and will toss in my blender with some VegaOne and coconut water, blend, and take to work.
I also watched Gilmore Girls all day while cleaning, cooking, and napping.
Run L’Arche 5 Miler
I signed up to run the L’Arche 5 Mile run about 10 days before the run, and I really wasn’t sure how I was going to perform, but since I had a 50 minute run on my calendar, I thought it would fit in quite well for the day.
I was able to pick up my race packet during the week on my lunch hour which was super convenient! I also received a $25 gift card to Strides for running both the St Patrick’s Day 5k and Run L’Arche. 💰
I drove myself to the start line, easily found a parking spot, and met up with Jen, Nicole, Leigh, Crystal, and Leslie at 9:30. Jen and Crystal were running the half, and the rest of us were running the 5-miler.
It was a cold morning so we waited inside for as long as possible before heading to the start line about 10 minutes before the start of the race. We weren’t really paying attention and all of a sudden the race was starting.
Since the race started at 10:15 and I had a chiropractor appointment at 11:20 my goal was to run as close to 10 minute miles as I could without killing myself since I hadn’t run all week. 😩
Mile 1 – 9:57
Mile 2 – 10:15
Mile 3 – 10:14
Mile 4 – 10:00
Mile 5 – 9:39
Race time – 50:06
I’m super impressed with my pacing, and I never felt like I was pushing myself too hard. When I hit mile 4 I decided to push a little harder to the finish line and I’m super happy with my last mile.
I chugged some Vega Performance Protein (mocha!) mixed with dark chocolate almond milk to help with my recovery. I highly recommend this recovery combo. Amazing.
The best part? I made it to my chiro appointment and I’m hoping my body will be good to go for this week.
Tell me the best part of your weekend!
