This past week of training has been a bit of a struggle. Physically, I’ve felt mostly okay, with the exception of feeling pretty tired for a few days, but mentally I’ve been pretty exhausted.
Let’s take a peek at how things went and then I’ll break down my week for you…
|Monday||13km easy||I was so tired, I couldn’t even get out the door…|
|Tuesday||4×1.5 miles strong (since I missed this last week, I’m going to repeat it this week)|
Happy Heart 5k
|7.5km at lunch|
|Thursday||17k tempo (maybe one day I’ll get a tempo run in…)||Off, due to…weirdness|
|Friday||12k easy||9.5k easy|
|Saturday||12k easy||Off, because blah|
|Sunday||Calgary Police Half Marathon|
10k cool down
|Calgary Police Half Marathon: 21.1km (recap)|
Total planned mileage: 95km; actual 37.5km
Okay, so about this week……Mentally, I’ve just not been there. From feeling like I was going to cry when heading out the door on Monday (I’m glad I rested), to having a probable panic attack at work on Thursday (there was no way I could run after that), running just didn’t happen as much as I wanted it to this week.
I’m undecided if I’m okay with my somewhat crappy mileage this week, or if I’m okay with it and ready to tackle the next five weeks of my training plan.
I have to confess, I’m already looking forward to not training for a race come June. I know I need to not think about after the race because the training right now is so important for my race, it’s all just been a really big challenge this week.
Here’s what week 14 looks like…
|Wednesday||4×1.5 miles strong (since I missed this last week, I’m going to repeat it this week)|
|Thursday||Off – massage (I may run at lunch…)|
Total planned mileage: 75km
I’ve noticed a significant difference in my performance when I have a glass (or two) of wine in the evenings, compared to not having any drinks. I know I mentioned before I was going to limit alcohol to weekends, but since my very important runs happen on weekends, I’m almost thinking I should just not drink.
The exception to this will be my birthday. I mean, I can’t not enjoy some win on my birthday! I’m still working out the final details, but I’m already excited!! 🙂
Tell me: Have you ever experienced training burn out? How did you deal with it?
